I AM HAPPY BECAUSE OF YOUtube: Video mash-up showing how we love Youtube

It cannot be denied the fact that a lot of Filipinos now are fond of multimedia and graphic arts and also  doing remixes of media content and coming up with a new creative content out of the original.  If there is one thing that I think is our advantage as Broadcast Communication degree candidates and students over those who just see Youtube as an avenue to generate income by simply making fun out of themselves, is the fact that we study and discuss Copyright, Copyright Issues and its implications to the videos or any content we produce.

Before coming up with my mash-up video, I spent 10 straight hours of watching videos and trying to make a mash-up with different themes from government to political economy, to feminism. But I just cannot see myself to those themes. As I watched Ryan Higa's channel and searched for more videos of Wong Fu Production, I saw this video of Ryan with a beginning title "My Youtube Story." That got my attention and I was surprised that it was one of the many videos uploaded for the 5th anniversary celebration of Youtube this year. So I watched similar videos and searched for other uniques stories and came with a topic.

I thought of a video mash-up that transverse the notion that we upload only to feature ourselves and forgetting to appreciate the technology that puts our videos and hosts it online which is Youtube. This video mash-up is dedicated to Youtube for making us entertained and happy.

After making the video, I sent a message to the original owners for their consent. And out of the nine producers, only one replied and he said that I can use his video as long as I do not earn profit from it. And so I told him that it is purely for academics, and he then allowed me to use his video.

I remember our professor Ma'am Data as she said in class that the videos we produce are projects and when we upload them in Youtube or in other hosts, there is a high possibility of it to be used by other individuals on the internet and to come up with a new idea out of your original product. Yes, I agree with Ma'am Data because it is true and has been proven already online that whatever project you do, so long as you properly cite your source, and as long as you have a valid input therein.

To keep you from not waiting, here is my last BC 148 video production, my mash-up. I hope you like it as I much as I did while doing it.

This video would not have been possible without the inspiration from my BC 148 Interactive Broadcasting class which is one of the factors that inculcated in me the love for Youtube. Thank you very much classmates and Ma'am Data!

PODCAST: Bringing lectures and seminars on cyberspace

We have a major production in my BC 148 or Interactive Broadcasting class and that is to make a video podcast on How to's but that I have not started yet. I know, my partner Ivy and I will air our production on the 19th yet I have not started it.

I may not have started doing the assigned podcast in class but I have started podcasting a lecture on the web! It was the lecture of Dr. Ed Portugal in our BA 101 class. To know the story about the lecture click here. If you wanna hear the entire playlist of the podcast click here. To check my podcast channel on podbean, click here.

Yesterday afternoon, while I got a chance to get out of my Comm 140 classroom to buy some snakcs, I saw Ma'am Data and asked her if she knows a free host for podcasts. She suggested Podcast Ally but when I checked it out, it was not really my type of thing so I googled for other free hosts. Then I found PodBean and I was interested on that site so I decided to make an account there where I can upload my podcasts.

I am pleased knowing that internet applications nowadays such as Podcasts and even RSS Feed, allow you to share your stuff on the cyberspace and makes it viral- reaching larger audience. I believe that it is one of the most significant tasks of the internet and that is to share what you know to contribute to others knowledge as well. It's a mutual relationship among producers and prod-users.

BC 148 does not only teach you the know-hows on the net but also teaches you the value of sharing and acknowledging the source. It's not that I am not for the productions it's just that I am not the production type of guy. As a matter of fact, I do not want to have production classes since I think it kills you. This class has a production but the type of prod that makes you enjoy it while doing it.

There you go, I have to end blogging now since I need to start doing the script of the podcast production since Ivy might get really even at me.

VIRAL-ity: On RSS Feed and Syndication

Finally I got to apply RSS on my sites!
I am happy having a class such as BC 148 or the Interactive Broadcasting especially having a professor who is really into these things on cyberspace. She introduces a lot of facts and things we can do on the internet and how to expand our horizons especially on the posts we make.
Now, one of the things we discussed, and I reported on this in fact, is on RSS Feed and Syndication.
It allows you to make your blogs, or podcasts viral on the internet. As Google Feed burner states:

"Feeds are a way for websites large and small to distribute their content well beyond just visitors using browsers. Feeds permit subscription to regular updates, delivered automatically via a web portal, news reader, or in some cases good old email. Feeds also make it possible for site content to be packaged into "widgets," "gadgets," mobile devices, and other bite-sized technologies that make it possible to display blogs, podcasts, and major news/sports/weather/whatever headlines just about anywhere."

One more point is that, since it allows you to make your ideas or posts viral, it can reach Yahoo News, if and only if it deserves to. I saw one time especially in the Yahoo Philippine News an article made by a student and I thought that it came from Yahoo per se but it is actually from a blog.

So here I am wondering what this RSS Feed may lead me into. Anyway, here is the feed of my blog. You might want to subscribe therein.

So guys, start adding RSS Feed on your blogs or podcasts, too! See you on the net!

UPDATE:
When I checked my twitter, the feed was already there!
Truly, it makes your posts VIRAL! :)

Befriend and Work

Here is my final output in my Broadcast Communication 148 class. You know what's more interesting than doing this activity is the fact that you get to know another person and be able to befriend him or her.
I like kids that is why I wanted to highlight them through this photo. Especially now the number of kids that is on the street and doing the things that even their fragile bodies cannot do, they still push their limits just to earn money so that they can buy food for themselves.

I found this picture so interesting that I have written to the one says on Flickr, the owner.

But it turned out that the person I wrote to was not the one who owns the picture, he just took the photo but his boss was the one who I am supposed to write to first. Here's what he replied to me.

I sent a message to him saying that I badly need it as soon as possible since I need to show him the output after editing it. I am lucky enough to have this new friend that is so nice and was able to send the file I need without going through many stages before I can have the copy.

Here is the original photo that he sent me. It is available at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ramdiboy/4325378340/in/photostream/

Again, thanks Thomas Tham for this wonderful masterpiece that you have.

Here is what he sent me just by now. I already edited the pic, Thomas. Thanks again!

Tsinelas

TSINELAS
by: ALDRIN SORIANO

The University of the Philippines is known for its academic freedom.
UP students and even professors can wear whatever they want to wear even slippers- one thing that most of the schools in the country does not allow.
Also, UP students are known for 'taking the road less traveled by' for they make their new way and they do not conform.
